Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique is also known as EFT or Tapping.

EFT is excellent for use with children and teenagers as well as adults, as it provides an independent way for children and young people to manage their stress and anxiety.

EFT therapy is about returning the mind, body and feelings to a state of balance and harmony so that we can let go of our negative emotions which cause us to have limiting beliefs. Even though we are designed to recover from unpleasant or traumatic experiences or thought patterns, we often find ourselves affected by recurring emotions from past events and experiences such as relationships, trauma or loss. We can also be affected by current or future events such as work related stress, anxieties, personal problems or life events.

EFT was developed in the United States by Gary Craig during the 1990s and combines Ancient Chinese Acupressure and Modern Psychology. EFT has provided thousands of people with relief from physical and emotional problems and conditions. Due to the simplicity and effectiveness of this therapy, its use is spreading rapidly and is becoming increasing popular in the United Kingdom. EFT is not counselling.

How does EFT work?

EFT tapping works by clearing the blocked energy channels within our body, a bit like clearing away a blockage in a pipe to enable the water to flow freely. You do not have to believe in the theory about the therapy in order to have incredible results.

What does an EFT treatment involve?

EFT is really simple and yet the results are amazing.

EFT tapping is easy to do as Catherine taps with you to show and prompt you, whilst getting you to focus on your areas of stress, concerns or issues. Sitting opposite each other, Catherine will guide you through the tapping points which are on your face, top of your head, under your arm and on your hand; you tap on yourself so no touch is required from the practitioner. Whilst tapping Catherine will help you with what to say in order to help disperse the emotion(s). The intensity of the feelings are measured at various points during the treatment by you tuning into your feeling; this enables both you and Catherine to know that balance is being restored.

Occasionally some feelings may return, but this would normally indicate that there is a little more work to do than we initially thought. It may be that there is more than one emotion or issue that needs to be cleared or that we need to be more specific.

How do I know if EFT will help me / my son / my daughter?

Catherine will undertake a telephone consultation with you prior to you booking an appointment. This will allow us to identify the main areas of concern and difficulties together, and will enable Catherine to be sure that EFT is the appropriate therapy.
